About
Hello and welcome to Wine Witch. I hope you visit us often. What is Wine Witch? First of all, let’s be very clear that I am not a wine professional. My husband and I refer to ourselves as “enthusiastic amateurs”. We enjoy a bottle of wine most nights with dinner. That can get pretty pricey, so it is a rare evening that we spend more than $15 for a bottle. To be totally truthful, more often than not, it is under $10. That’s the whole point of Wine Witch. There is a lot of great, affordable wine out there just waiting to be enjoyed.
If you are looking for a place to debate the merits of first growth French Burgundies versus Bordeaux, this is not it. If however, you want discover some exciting, affordable wines or share your finds with other like minded “winos”, you have come to the right place. You will also have a chance to share your comments and wine experiences.
So the plan here is to post my very personal reviews of several wines under $15 each week. From time to time, I might sneak in wines that are a little more expensive if they really deserve it. There is a rating scale of 1-5 for each wine reviewed. There is some truth in advertising required here. These are not blind tastings before review. The Wine Witch always knows what she is drinking and it is usually with dinner. The best way to describe the ratings ultimately assigned is “bang for the buck” - the degree of drinking pleasure relative to the price paid. There will be absolutely no insult taken if you think a rating is completely off the mark. Wine enjoyment is a very personal experience.
I will also post content under the other sections as regularly as possible. I can’t do this alone. I have a day job. Like any other blog out there, Wine Witch will only be a good as the enthusiasm and interaction it generates.
The Wine Witch Manifesto:
- Life is too short to drink bad wine.
- You do not have to spend more than $15 for good wine
- There are no rules - drink what you want when you want
- Wine is to be enjoyed and not hoarded
- Wine tastes better when savored and shared with special people
Cheers!
Suzie, the Wine Witch
