Five Rivers Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 California $10 wine reviewsBefore reviewing a wine, the Wine Witch usually checks out the winery’s website.  Always find it a bit amusing to compare my tasting notes against the “official” notes put out by the winery, especially when I do not particulary like the wine.  Anyway, this one is a hoot – all done in Flash.  There is this theme about goddesses which for the life of me I cannot figure out what it has to do with the wine.  It is also pretty sparse on information.  Note to Five Rivers: love your wine, but find the site pretty pointless.  Most substance please.

Anyway, I will not hold their site against them.  I really liked the Five Rivers Cabernet Sauvignon.  It has the bigness that Cab lovers crave, but the oak does not beat you over the head or suck every bit of moisture out of your mouth.  It is a deep garnet in the glass with a raspberry nose.  It is mouth filling  – almost creamy.  The main flavors are raspberries and blackberries along with a touch of black pepper.  It has a very pleasant smoky finish.  This is a Cab for all seasons and tastes – and at 10 bucks quite a bargain.

Based on your reccomendation, I tried this and … it’s the other Cabernet I’d willingly drink again. I still don’t get while CS is considered *the* grape of grapes, but I enjoyed this wine quite a bit. It’s got a lot going on.
