Vinho Verde literally translates in green wine. Do not panic – the stuff in the glass is not pea green. When held up to the light there is a light greenish gold caste, but the wine is definitely not green. This is a varietal that is produced in the Northeast corner of Portugal.

Other than the slightest hint of a floral scent, Astica has to be one of the most uncomplicated wines ever—and this isn’t a bad thing. Like most Sauvignon Blancs, it’s clean, crisp and springy—and you definitely can’t beat it for the price. Its only weakness is that other than a subtle citrus-y zing, the taste can get “lost” with many foods, so I prefer to enjoy it on its own.
