lexia Alice White Lexia 2008 Australia $7 wine reviewsFirst of all the Wine Witch is completely shocked that she liked this wine.  It is definitely sweet – along the lines of a Reisling.  What saves it is that it finishes quite crisp and not at all cloying.  You see the price tag above – really cheap.  Last but not least it is only 10% alcohol.

Chardonnay is probably the premier white varietal – certainly in the U.S..  There is almost a limitless range of Chardonnay styles and almost every wine producing country or region has Charonnay.  One of the biggest factors impacting the final result is the age old question – To Oak,  or Not to Oak.  If you have a dedicated Chardonnay drinker on your gift list, the Wine Witch is going to guess that they fall on the “to oak” side of the question.  While there are some lovely unoaked Chardonnays out there, most Chardonnay has seen some wood.

alice-white.jpgAlice White Chardonnay is a great bargain at $7.  Do be warned that this is not a typical Australian Chardonnay.  Aussie Chard tends to be big, bold, in your face kind of wines that are occasionally over the top with overripe flavors.  The Alice White could be described as clean and pure.
