OK, if you have been following this blog you know that Cabernet Sauvignon is not my go to grape. So balance what I am saying here against your own palate. Veramonte is a mega producer from Chile. I like their whites especially for the price point. I found the Cabernet Sauvignon disappointing.
The 2007 Veramonte Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is a pretty ruby in the glass with a bouquet of cherry tobacco. A promising start that did not follow through on tasting. It was a very simple wine that lacked the intensity you expect from a Cab. There was the expected black cherry along with some plum and earthy notes. However, all of this took a back seat to the almost overwhelming oak. I thought I was licking the barrel. Admittedly, the Wine Witch is not a fan of overly oaked wines. I am not saying this is right or wrong. It is a matter of very personal preference. So if you like oaky wines at a reasonable price, this might be for you. Just not my thing.
