Ber
inger is a well recognized name in California wine making. However, they have many labels under this brand so pay attention to the California Collection part. It is their entry label, but there are some good values to be had here. I am still holding true to my New Year’s resolution to drink more Cabs and so far it is working out for me.
The 2006 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon is a fairly nuanced wine for $8. You are not beat over the head with the oak or tannins. They are quite mellow and take their appropriate place in the background. The flavors start with blackberries; move on to cassis; and, finish with vanilla.
Here is a value red to have with heartier fish like tuna or salmon.

I think Beringer wines are great. Another entry level wine brand they use that I enjoy often is Stone Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon.
