The Wine Witch has a few themes that you will see over and over and over. One of them is that there are very few great Pinot Noirs for $15 or less. Pinot Noir is just a finicky grape. It requires very precise growing conditions in order to reach its full potential. This results in lower yields and the old supply and demand principles kick in.
The 2007 Cartlidge and Brown Pinot Noir is nice. It is certainly on the dark end of the Pinot Noir spectrum and is quite purple in the glass. Yes, you get the expected black cherries in the nose and on the tongue. There is also some plum and an unexpected cedar note. The overall effect is quite smooth. Best way to describe is that it does not offend, but it also does not excite.
If you are looking for a very good value priced Pinot Noir, I prefer the Bogle.
