Don’t let the screw top put you off. This is a good quality Cab for $8 that is not meant to be held beyond 5 years – SO IT DOES NOT MATTER. Cypress Vineyards is also a secondary label of J. Lohr and they make a quality product.
The 2007 Cypress Sauvignon is a very deep purple in the glass – quite opaque with a little bright red around the edges. You get the characteristic dark fruit aromas with some cedar. There is a bit of winemaker alchemy here. The wine is about 89% Cab with a few other red goodies thrown in which have a civilizing effect. As expected there are black cherries and currants with a bit of tobacco. The tannins are within sane parameters.
The 2008 Cypress Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is a good beef on the barbie kind of wine.
