Scary name – if you need to ask for it, just say GAVERTZ – the wine store will know what you mean. Gewurztraminer is a traditional German varietal which is very under appreciated. Fetzer makes a very true to form version that is readily available.
The 2007 Fetzer Gerwurztraminer is a very light gold in the glass. The first sniff is sweet honeysuckle with ripe apricot. It is a medium weight wine with predominant flavors of apricots, peaches, and honey. Towards the end a pleasant nuttiness emerges along with the spiciness you expect from this grape.
The Fetzer Gerwurzt has a bracing acidity which makes it very food friendly. I recently had it with some BBQ port and it was super.
