This famous filmaker may ultimately be known for his wines as much as the director of the Godfather movies. This is no hobby for Mr. Coppola. He makes some very serious wine out of the old Inglenook winery he bought some years back. He never does any thing half-way.
The Diamond Series would be his everyday label with most of the wines in the mid-teen price point. The 2006 Chardonnay is a very nice wine from Monterey on the Central Coast of California. It is a sunshine yellow in the glass which ties into the tropical fruit in the nose. On the palate, the predominat flavors are crisp apple and melon. Towards the end you do get the oak and vanilla notes you expect from Chardonnay, but not too crazy.
The 2006 Coppola Chardonnay is probably in the middle range of oak in Chardonnay. This would be a good compromise choice when you have wine drinkers who run the spectrum in their preference for wood in their white wine.
