greentruck Green Truck Sauvignon Blanc 2008 California $12 wine reviewsThis was the second of the new Sauvignon Blancs that we sampled over the long holiday weekend.  I gotta say it was a disappointment.  Not sure if I over anticipated or it was just that dull.

The Red Truck winery has long produced some really good every day table wines.  They are blends sourced from several vineyards, but the quality has always been very consistent.  In order I have enjoyed the White Truck, the Pink Truck, and the Red Truck.  Each of these bottles has a really cool vintage truck on the label in the corresponding color.

While having a martini (gin, straight up, with olives as the universe intended) at our local bistro, I spied a bottle of Green Truck in the cooler.  We persuaded the bartender to pour us each a glass (it pays to be a regular).  It turns out that the Green Truck label is not a single varietal.  This is Red Truck’s foray in wines made from organic grapes.  A laudable enterprise, but the results with the Sauvignon Blanc were not.

The 2008 Green Truck Sauvignon Blanc was just plain boring.  The tasting notes said it should be “crisp with lemon peel, grapefruit, and orange”.   What I got was a thin wine that was more sour than crisp.  Sure there was some citruss at first, but it quickly died out.

Yes, Sauvignon Blanc is the Wine Witch’s go to grape.  However, I would chew on a Cab before I had this one again.
