maso-canali.jpgThe Maso Canali Pinot Grigio is a super wine.  You do need to know upfront that this is not a typical Pinot Grigio.  The Wine Witch considers this a good thing, but diehard Pinot drinkers may have a different opinion.  This one is also a splurge at $30 and may take a little work to find.

What makes this Pinot Grigio so different is that a portion of the grapes is dried before being fermented.  This makes for a rounder wine with a fuller mouth feel.  It also concentrates the fruit flavors of pineapple and apricot.  Towards the end there is a nutty, chestnut experience.  There is a lot going on in the glass, but it is still a very elegant wine.

The 2005 Maso Canali Pinot Grigio is just a lovely wine to sip.  Personally I would not want to overwhelm it with anything that is too spicy or seasoned.
