The Menage a Trois Rose is the wine for White Zinfandel addicts who are ready to grow up a bit. Look if you love White Zin – great. I do prattle on about how there are no rules. However, in the Wine Witch’s totally biased, unsufferably obnoxious opinion White Zin is barely a step above wine cooler. Hey, I drank my share of the stuff back in the day. But just like my taste in music matured, so did my taste in wine.
If you read the previous reviews on the Menage a Trois Red and White, you know the name refers to the fact that the wines are blends of three grapes. In the Rose’s case it is Melot, Syrah, and Gewurztraminer. That is s crazy combination that never would have occured to me – but it works and it is fun, fun, fun.
In the glass it is a brilliant cranberry. Probably the boldest hued Rose I have ever seen. The raspberry nose follows into the glass along with strawberries and lychees. The Gewurzt adds a dash of spice. The effect is very fresh and crisp. It finishes a bit off-dry, which will entice you White Zin drinkers, but it is not sweet.
This is the perfect sunset on the patio wine. However sitting here in the Northeast in the dead of February that seems far away. I think I will keep sipping and dreaming.
