Proseco is an Italian sprakling wine. In the Wine Witch’s opinion, the best Italian sparkling wine. The other contender, Asti Spumante, just is not in the same league. Preseco is also part of a famous cocktail from Venice, the Bellini. The other main ingredient is white peach juice – yummy.
This is not champagne and there are two things we need to deal with. First, do not be put off by the fact that the closure resembles a beer bottle. Easy off just means you can get to the contents quicker. Second, this sparkler is not going to overflow the glass when poured, which did give me a little pause. However, although the bubbles are not that apparent in the glass, it has a lively fizz on the tongue.
The Mionetto Preseco Brut is a delightful, everyday sparkling wine. This is the one to have with your pizza when you are feeling festive. The nose is very peachy. The peaches carry through into the first taste and are joined with some apple. The fruit is forward but the overall effect is quite dry. An extra bonus is it low alcohol content which allows you to enjoy an extra glass.
You would not call the Mionetto Proseco Brut sophisticated or complex, but it is just plain fun. At $11 a bottle, how can you resist?
