The Wine Witch is not proud – she reads Wine Spectator. The rather expensive subscription is worth it for the Smart Buys and Best Value reviews in every issue. Some of the most exciting moments occur when Wine Spectator comes to the same conclusion that I already have. Positive affirmation is always a good thing.
OK – so if you have every stumbled across this blog before, you know the Wine Witch thinks that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is the best darn white out there for the money. In the case of the 2007 Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc, Wine Spectator is right there with me with a Score of 90.
A lot of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc can hit you over the head with their party in the glass qualities – not a bad thing when you are the mood for a party. The offering from Nobilo strikes a way more sophisticated chord. There is the anticipated grapefruit, but more restrained and nicely integrated with a certain minerality and a bit of spice at the end – Nice! It is a very generous wine with layers of flavor that seamlessly flow into one another. Personally, I like to sip it on its own, but its more subtle style makes it s good choice with most anything other than heavy meat dishes.
The bottom line on the 2007 Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc- Find It! Buy It! Enjoy!
