As the names “Layers” implies this is a blend – a white blend. When done right blends can be very exciting. The 2008 Peter Lehmann Layers is certainly a case of the whole being more than the sum of its parts.
This wine from Down Under is a melage of Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gerwurtz, Chardonnay and Semillion. That’s a lot of balls to juggle but it is pulled off with great finesse. It is a medium gold in the glass with a spicy floral nose. It is wonderfully balanced and smooth with crisp apple, citrus, and richer tone that is perhaps fig with a bit of banana. This wine sees no wood so it has a nice jolt of acidity which makes it very food friendly.
The 2008 Peter Lehmann Layers is an absolute steal at $15. Find it. Enjoy it.
