The Wine Witch would probably have fingers left over if I counted the times we
poured wine down the drain – not because it was corked – but just because we did not like it. This weekend we poured a bottle of Redwood Creek Chardonnay down the drain.
Redwood Creek is the value label of Frei Brothers. Frei makes a big, oaky Chardonnay that is quite popular. I guess they were trying to duplicate that style at a lower price point. It has plenty of wood, but here it tastes like the runoff from a wood chipper. If there was fruit, I was hard pressed to find it amongst the wood shavings. Enough said. I would not recommend even at this low price.
