Rosemont Diamond Label is a widely available brand from Australia. I tend to favor their reds over the whites. With Shiraz associated with Australia, it is natural that they do this one well. A good, everday pizza kind of wine.
The Rosemont Shiraz does not have as much heft as some of the other Australian examples of this grape. It is a lovely purplely red with nice black fruit aromas. It has a very discernable taste of clove, which I like in a Shiraz. This wine has very good acidity which makes it friendly to a wide range of food.
Under the Diamond Label, Rosemont also has two blends that you might want to check out. The first is Shiraz Grenache. This is a little bit lighter and smoother than the Shiraz. Very, very pleasant and a good summer sipper. There is also a Shiraz Cabernet blend. As you would expect, this one is a little more complex and has some definite oak. It would be a good compromise for those that like fruit forward reds and those that like some wood.

We were eager to try the ‘04 Diamond Label Shiraz,, but our local wine cellar (which consists of the nearest ‘World Market’ franchise) only had the ‘05 vintage in stock. We went with one of your other suggestions; Sauvignon Blac (Kim Crawford ‘06). By the way, is ‘04 Rosemont still available ??? Any suggestions……
Here’s a link to a good buy on the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc $12.94
Caught the Wine Witch breaking one of her cardinal rules – that the wine reviewed is widely available. The 2004 Rosemont Shiraz is probably gone from most shelves by now. In fact the 2006’s are being released around now, so 2005 will also be less available. What I can tell you, is that I have found the large Australian labels are very consistent from year to year. Rosemont’s Diamond label is not from a single vineyard – it is a blend from several. This allows the winemaker to pick and choose from several lots of grapes to produce their signature style. So my recommendation is to buy the 2005 and enjoy. Perhaps you would like to share your experience when you do.
