Boy that name is a mouthful. Don’t let it scare you. Traminer is short for Gewurztraminer, so this wine is a blend of Gewurztraminer and Riesling. Traminer is a very misunderstood grape. I think people are afraid to try it because they cannot pronounce it. In German Gewurz means spiced, so wines made from this grape have spicy and crisp characteristics. Good stuff.

Rosemount is a value priced Australian winery probably best known for their Chardonnay and Shiraz. The 2007 Traminer Riesling is a nice departure from their norm. It is described as dry, but I think off-dry is a bit closer to the mark. It has a lovely spicy fragrance that is also quite floral. Lots of flavors dance around in the mouth – tangerine, lychee, and pear with the last whisper being somewhere between cinnamon and clove.

The 2007 Rosemount Traminer Riesling as expected is great with your spicy Asian cuisines.
