Viognier (vee-own-YAY) is another white varietal that does not always get its due. Other than some oaky Chardonnays, Viognier makes probably the most powerful white wine out there. A word of caution, along with the power comes the alcohol. This Rosenblum Viognier comes in at 14.8%.
The wine is a lovely gold in the glass and the aroma of very ripe apricots comes right to you. It is a full bodied wine that feels very creamy and lush. The apricots carry though to the taste along with some peach. The follow on flavors are cinnamon and toasty vanilla.
I usually think reds pair better with cheese, but this is a white that stands up to most any cheese – cuts through the creamy ones and complements the sharper ones. While Viogniers do tend to go well with ethnic cuisines and spice , this one is a handful and better of with dishes like roast chicken.
