This is the first 5 that the Wine Witch has awarded and it made me a little nervous to do so. Is the 2005 White Truck one of the great wines of the world? Well no – but as a quality white for around $10, I think you will be hard pressed to beat it. The Wine Witch would love for somebody out there to try it and weigh in.
This white is a blend by a producer with the interesting name of 585 Wine Partners. It has a little something for everyone as it includes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, and Chardonnay. Blends are a lot of fun to taste – so many flavors to decipher. Also, blends are an opportunity for a wine maker to really show off their stuff.
The 2005 White Truck is a pale golden color tinged with green. The aroma reminds you of melons and oranges. The majority Sauvignon Blanc grape comes through first with the expected citrus and gooseberry flavors. The Pinot Grigio lends freshness and well balanced acidity. The Viognier adds several citrus and apple layers, while the Chardonnay rounds out the overall effect on the finish. No oak in this one.
White Truck would probably go with most anything other than slabs of red meat or hearty winter stews. I have not yet tried the Red Truck or Pink Truck offerings, but based on this one I surely will. Stay tuned.
